I’m cancelling my trip to Fish Creek Canyon again.  I think I’ll be back here for some winters, spring trainings, and lots of hiking — particularly if my boss allows me to do seasonal work for him, which I think he might.

I have to say, I’m a little disappointed in myself.  It’s not because I got stranded here.  It’s because I didn’t take full advantage of what Phoenix has to offer.  True, I saw 8 spring-training stadiums and did wayyyyy too much dining out (last year).  But I only went to one of the many museums, rarely visited parks or went hiking, only went to the Superstitions once, rarely sought out special events or festivals and — I simply didn’t explore much!

I’m trying to recall what happened.  I remember when I arrived I was spending most of my time between the casinos, dining out too much ($$), and relaxing at the pool.  Then I realized I wasn’t quite meeting my expenses so I took on one job, then took on that disastrous 2nd job for the start-up, and then a high-maintenance girlfriend.  I guess I was kind of busy.  Then I ended up in the hospital and missed a month’s worth of work.  My condition did prohibit me from strenuous activities like hiking for a couple months and, financially, I could only allow myself to max out $150 on a credit card for the spring training games — so much for special events, museums, and dining out.   Then, another time-consuming 2nd job with Jesco.   So, if I”m going to beat myself up, I could have at least gone to more parks…

I’m still pretty dumbfounded that I didn’t get more out of the area.  I won’t let it happen again.  I have a ton of resources at my fingertips.  For now on, every extended stay is going to have all special-events-of-interest mapped out on a calendar.  Additionally, I’m going to research and list all hiking trails, parks, and free activities I’ll want to explore.  Then, at least every 10 days, I have to choose one new activity from these lists!  Yep, I’m going to “systematically” satisfy my need to explore and have fun.

Yesterday I worked hard at finishing preparations.  First, I checked all the turn signals.  It appears a couple of the “nighttime-lights” are out, but I don’t drive at night.  The rest seemed to be in working order.

I then went to my favorite mechanic across the street to talk tires.  I had a couple used front tires installed in Phoenix awhile back that are a different ply than the back.  He said ultimately I may want to get the same specs for both front and back, but I’d be just fine for the short trip to Vegas.  He also recommended a small upgrade later on — but that any more than that would be overkill on my vehicle.  He aired up the tires for free.

The morning and early evening was devoted to scrubbing, scraping, and wiping.  Here’s my little office…

I’m happy to say I’m finally finished.  Some of my RV friends did recommend some special tape that I can maybe use as trim but being almost out of time, that may have to wait until I get to Vegas.  My hope is this will “pass inspection” when I get to Thousand Trails there.  They accept “some” older rigs depending on their condition.

I do have quite a list of chores today, but I’m mostly taking it easy.  I’ll meet Jim and Sandie for dinner tonight, then my last two nights at work — and I’m on the road again!

Hope you have a good trip. I’m practicing around my area; I’ve done some posts about the camps. My launch date is June 7. Have you tried Eternabond tape for those roof leaks. It will stick to just about anything, and is guaranteed for 15 years.

I’m going to check it out, later. I went ahead and sealed “it” again — of course the tricky part not knowing where the heck it really is. If that doesn’t do the trick, I have that post bookmarked in my head.

June 7, congrats! Where to first?
